Key staff

Gary Hall

Director Garry Hall is an open licensed builder who spent more than a decade working in high level commercial projects working his way up through Raptis and Mirvac.

As Foreman for Raptis, Garry supervised the construction of key South East Queensland projects including the The Mediterranean North and East Towers at Burleigh Heads, comprising two ten storey towers Moroccan Stages 2 & 3, comprising 19 and 23 storey towers respectively including the Sales offi ce and the display units. As Foreman and then Supervisor for Mirvac, Garry worked on the Mariner’s Reach Apartments at Newstead Terrace and The Anchorage Islands at Tweed Heads initially before being appointed to the Portside Bulimba to rectify and complete the project comprising of 85 prestige residential townhouse units, with 65 remaining for completion at his appointment.

The responsibilities grew as he worked his way up to Site Supervisor and at 25 was the youngest Site Supervisor ever employed by Mirvac.

In 2001, Garry was appointed to supervise the Civil Works Cutters Landing Project at New Farm which began with the demolition of asbestos prevalent buildings and the sale of the old sugar refi nery plant and equipment to make way for the redevelopment of the 14.5 hectare site as medium density apartment complexes and detached dwellings, and included the maintenance and preservation of a heritage listed building and selected trees.

He was then retained for the Sales Offi ce and Stage 1, Flinders Apartments comprising an eight storey apartment tower.

In 2003 Garry went out on his own as an Open Class Builder, and under the banner of ByDesign Homes Pty Ltd soon became a builder of choice for luxury homes in South East Queensland as well as constructing high volume project housing in North Brisbane between 2003 and 2010 under the banner of ByDesign Project Homes Pty Ltd.

In 2007 ByDesign Commercial was formed with the idea to invest in commercial property and to contract for commercial construction and government work and so the Quality Management System was introduced and the system was certifi ed and is regularly updated, allowing ByDesign to tender for PQC Rating 2 Public Works projects.

Focusing on challenging demolition sites, safety and sustainability, ByDesign is able to provide high-level technical services with relatively low overheads by retaining a small team of highly qualifi ed and experienced largely self-reliant professionals whilst outsourcing support staff only where necessary, which is novel in the industry which tends to retain administrative staff whilst technical workers come and go. This stripped down management approach has meant that we have been able to work through this
downturn with minimal upheaval.

Fleur Radford

Fleur Radford worked for McKerrell Lynch Architects before joining the newly formed Architecture Project Management (APM) team to start on the $10 billion dollar Hope Island Resort integrated resort for Shinko Pty Ltd, where she began her Quantity Surveyor’s degree working for Terry Morse and Allan MacDonald as joint heads of the Project Management team with the head offi ce on the project site.

After the Clubhouse handover several years later, Fleur joined civil contractor Nyholt Constructions Pty Ltd as a Contract Administrator working on the large-scale subdivisions of Arundel and Robina, the Gold Coast Queensland Rail Stations and other South East Queensland infrastructure projects.

After transferring into a law degree and graduating with honours, Fleur went to work for Gall Standfi eld & Smith Solicitors working on building and construction law and planning and environment matters with clients including the Gold Coast City Council and high volume developers.

In 2004, Fleur won the prestigious APIA Scholarship to work with Channel 9’s in-house legal counsel in Sydney. During this time Fleur presented a peer blind reviewed conference paper: Shooting the Messenger: Legal Pitfalls for Third Sector Communications Practitioners in the ‘New’ Public Participation.

Several years later, Fleur worked for start-up construction patent company Tractile, as in-house legal offi cer and quality assurance manager, working up until the CSR Construction Materials Pty Ltd licensing agreement was completed.

Fleur then worked for a number of building contractors and another civil contractor in commercial project administration in Brisbane and the Gold Coast until joining the ByDesign team as Offi ce Manager / Contracts Administrator / Workplace Health & Safety Offi cer and is currently completing her Advanced Diploma in Building and Construction.
